Fall 1978: The Units begin in San Francisco as an eight-piece in the middle of 1978. The band features Scott Ryser on synthesizer, Jay Darrah on drums, Tim Ennis on bass, Randy Dunagan on lead vocals, and Lori Lorenzo, Ron Lantz and Amy Weiss on guitars.
The band dissolves fairly quickly.
The drummer, guitar players and lead singer leave, along with Tim's bass, which is stolen. The Units, after holding an "instrument party" to purchase Tim a synthesizer, find Richie Driskell (Richie Twisted, Dick Lexic) to play drums and continue as a three-piece under the direction of Scott Ryser.
